Rickety Bridge -
Duncan Spence, British business man with a GREAT passion for wine and food and
a love of South Africa combined
his interests when he purchased Rickety
Bridge in 2000, and has
been instrumental in providing the tools for the renaissance of this historic
estate. The land dates back to 1694 when farms, situated in the valley at the
foot of what is now known as the Franschhoek
Mountain were given to Huguenot
farmers – Rickety Bridge was once part of the original La Provence farm. Rickety Bridge
is situated just outside the quaint town of Franschhoek,
food and wine capital of the Cape. Duncan upgraded the
facilities and employed a new enthusiastic winemaker Wynand Grobler whose wine
making philosophy is. Basics. Stick to basics. Don’t interfere too much; the wine is made in
the vineyard. (‘We grow wine here!’).
